Koh Grill & Sushi Bar at Wisma - Delicious Sushi at Affordable prices

Koh Grill & Sushi Bar, located just beside Food Republic at Wisma Atria, always has a long queue during peak hours. I was always curious but lazy to queue. It was half day work and I managed to secure seats for 2. It was full house but at least there was no snaking queue. The atmosphere was charged with loud chatting and diners were seated very closely to each other but here at Koh Grill, nobody seemed to have minded this fact, including me.

I saw Shiok!!! Maki at almost every table. (OMG! Shiok is a word in Oxford Dictionary???) Check out the meaning. Shiok!!! Maki must be their signature sushi.

Shiok!!!Maki S$16.80

Shiok!!! Maki
Shiok Maki is a sushi roll with Unagi, avocado, Aburi Salmon, topped with Tobiko and a sauce that reminds me of mayonnaise that is very light. Aburi style refers to fish that is partially grilled, resulting in a melt-in-the-mouth moment, with a nice char flavour. I placed the entire Shiok!!! Maki in my mouth after dipping it in soya sauce with wasabi. This is how I like to eat my sushi. It was good!. How good is good? I could taste the nice char flavour from the salmon; the avocado had just the right touch; the unagi was delicious; the sauce itself was not too rich; the tobiko provided some tasty crunch. Most importantly, the sushi rice was excellent, definitely of a top notch Japanese restaurant quality.

The experience of eating this reminded me of Bedok Bak Chor Mee. When I ate it, I did not feel that it was the most awesome sushi that I have ever eaten because I felt that it was a tad too sweet and wet. But...but... the next day, I missed the taste and wanted to eat it again.

Flounder Aburi Sushi S$4

Sake Aburi Sushi S$4.20

Flounder Aburi Sush/ Sake Aburi Sushi
We are fans of Aburi Sushi because of the char flavour and extremely soft fish, mixed with delicious sushi rice. Sake does not refer to the alcoholic drink in case you are trying very hard to taste the sake in the sushi. Sake is a Japanese word for salmon used in sushi. Very delicious Aburi Sushi but Itacho $0.80 Aburi Salmon is just as yummy. Is it still S$0.80?

The most delicious Aburi Nigiri Sushi I have eaten so far is at Tatsu but it is more expensive.

Asari Soup S$5

Asari Soup
Duckie is a fan of Asari Soup. As she picked up the clams, she wondered aloud that she was very lucky because recently, the clams she ate were all plump and fresh. She was referring to our Vongole Pasta at Ice Edge Cafe. The serving was also generous for S$5.

Sashimi Moriawase (5 types) S$20

Sashimi Mori - Swordfish, Salmon, Tuna, Tako, Sea Bream
Moriawase means "combination platter". S$20 for 5 types of sashimi is considered very reasonable. I ate at Izakaya 95 and Hokkaido Izakaya recently, both restaurants charge much more. The Mekajiki and Tako were excellent, much more delicious than most sashimi I have tasted. The sea bream was not to my palette. I do not know how to appreciate it. I usually enjoy only Swordfish and Salmon sashimi. It is very difficult to find delicious Tako.

Sanma Shioyaki S$9

Sanma Shio
Duckie wanted to maintain a healthier lifestyle so she wanted to order fish when I asked her why she wanted to order "Saba fish" usually sold at food courts. Sanma Shio is a Pike fish, usually cooked intact with intestines. No wonder I found gooey things in the fish which tasted very interesting. One of the gooey stuff which Duckie felt was the stomach, tasted like an alcoholic drink. The other type of gooey stuff was salty and delicious. The fish meat itself reminded me of Saba Fish sold in food courts.

Morokyo S$4

Morokyo
Recently, I am so into eating cucumbers because they are very high in alkaline, supposedly could help me digest my food better. I ordered it at restaurants; I prepared it at home.  The beans paste was salty. It was a refreshing option at S$4 for an appetiser.

Charcoal Grilled

Foie Gras S$8

Shitake Mushrooms S$2

Swordfish S$6

Foie Gras, Shitake, Mekajiki
Among the grilled items, my favourite was the Foie Gras. If you have not tried Charcoal grilled Foie Gras, you do not know what you are missing. It was as delicious as the one I had at Izakaya 95 in Punggol but Izakaya 95 charges only $10 for a very big piece.

I will definitely be back at Koh Grill and Sushi Bar for their delicious sushi if there is no snaking queue. I will definitely ensure that it is a table for 4 so that we can try different types of sushi which look amazing on the menu.
